I want to share with you guys my experience playing video games with my peers from my class. While we did not play every game together, we shared our experiences by sharing our screens over Zoom.

Gameplay of a dating sim

Game 1:

This game is called Coffin Counseling which can be found here: https://rose-engine.itch.io/manbat

I would classify this game as an adventure game. In this game, you play as a bat who goes around talking to an array of different npc characters and tries to make them feel better. The dialogue options that are given to you are unique and have a sense of comedy in the form of “nonsense” dialogue options.

Game 2:

This game is called Nothing to Say, which can be found here: https://celia14.itch.io/nothing-to-say

This is a unique dating simulator that does not seem to follow the normal recipe of dating sims. You have to use letters of the alphabets in order to choose a dialogue option, however, you do not have access to all the letters. You gain more letters by playing through the story and unlocking more dialogue options as you progress.

Game 2:

This game is called Universal Paperclips, which can be found here: https://www.decisionproblem.com/paperclips/index2.html

I would classify this game as a sales simulator that has and auto-playing mechanics. Similar to Cookie clicker and Adventure Capitalist, there are mechanics that allow you to progress further without human interaction.

Afterthought:

I noticed a critical connection between game 1 and 2, which both entertained unique dialogue options that led to progression in terms of the story. You get to learn more about the world that is being built and discover new options that were not available to you before.

I also noticed while watching my teammates play other games, that I would make different decisions from them which led to different outcomes. Watching others play would be at times slightly more frustrating as choices seem more obvious to me. However, when the game involved a certain level of skill, watching games would be more enjoyable when compared to playing games. A good example was https://armorgames.com/play/4309/this-is-the-only-level.
