Blog Post 2: Game Lab 1

I want to share a session report of a game that I played in with a group of classmates. The game we all played (and what this session report will be about) is called Cheat, which can be found here: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/15832/cheat

Recreation of the game

I’ve personally known the game as B.S, or B*llS**t, and here is how it went:

Game Start:

  1. Player 1 claims to play two Aces.
  2. Player 2 claims to play one 2.
  3. Player 3 claims to play one 3.
  4. Player 4 claims to play one 4.
  5. Player 5 claims to play one 5.

Now at this point, we can see that people are hesitant to call each other out and are trying to feel out how each others play the game.

6. Player 1 calls out Player 5 and gets it right, which means that Player 5 takes all the cards.

7. Player 1 claims to play one 6.

8. Player 3 calls out Player 1 and gets it right, which means that Player 1 takes all the cards.

9. Player 2 claims to play two 7’s.

10. Player 3 claims to play one 8.

11. Player 4 claims to play two 9's.

12. Player 5 claims to play one 10.

13. Player 1 claims to play one Jack.

14. Player 2 claims to play one Queen.

15. Player 3 claims to play one King.

16. Player 1 calls out Player 3 and gets it right, which means that Player 3 takes all the cards.

Now this was a risky move from Player 1 as the discard pile had become sizable and made the risk of getting it wrong detrimental to winning.

As we fast forward a several moves, we can see people going at each other as making the wrong call only costs you at most a couple cards.

32. Player 5 claims to play two Queens.

33. Player 1 calls out Player 5 and gets it wrong, which means that Player 1 takes all the cards.

34. Player 1 claims to play one King.

35. Player 2 claims to play one Ace.

36. Player 5 calls out Player 2 and gets it right, which means that Player 2 takes all the cards.

37. Player 3 claims to play one 2.

38. Player 5 calls out Player 3 and gets it wrong, which means that Player 5 takes all the cards.

39. Player 4 claims to play one 3.

40. Player 3 calls out Player 4 and gets it right, which means that Player 4 takes all the cards.

41. …

The game ended with Player 2 winning and it was quite tense as even though someone called his bluff, he had the correct card at the right time to end the game.

With a game like this, I would have preferred to play it in person as we could see how many cards each person had and who to target so that the game doesn’t end. However, overall I had a blast playing this game.
